MENAinc participated in the Arab ICT Incubators Workshop and Arab Technoparks Meeting, held in Hammamet, Tunisia,  11 and 12 November 2013. This workshop is organised by the El-Gazzala Technopark (Member of MENAinc) in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as a paralle event in the ICT4All Forum.

 

The workshop have addressed number of topics related to Technoparks and Business Incubators such as: Overview of the existing situation of Technoparks and Incubators, Technoparks for Regional balanced sustainable development, Different Types of Incubator Hosts and Success stories of incubators in the region and future outlook.

ICT4ALL forum is organized in partnership with ITU, UNESCO, UNCTAD, the World Bank, the African Development Bank, the African Union, the League of Arab States, ECA and ESCWA. it will bring together all stakeholders representing governments, international organizations, civil society, the private sector, researchers and academics. It is a catalyst for the reduction of the digital divide in all, dimensions, economic, social, geographical etc.. Similarly, the current political policy has given rise to the important role that ICT4ALL can provide for communication rights, particularly regarding the exercise of the right of citizens to access to Internet through effective use of Information and Communication Technologies potential.

MENAinc in the Arab Forum on the ICT Sector (Hammamet - Tunisia)

MENAinc have participated in the Arab Forum on the ICT Sector which was held in the city of Hammamet in Tunisia from 7 to 10 May 2013, under the patronage and with the participation of the Minister of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), H.E. Mr. Mongi Marzoug.

This event is within a joint cooperation framework between the Union of Arab Banks (UAB) and ESCWA/ICT Division. The forum encompassed two consecutive events, namely the Expert Group Meeting on Investment, Research, Development and Innovation in the ICT Sector (7-8 May 2013), and the Conference on Investment and Finance of the ICT Sector in the Arab Region (9-10 May 2013).  Participants in the Forum included experts who are stakeholders from the public sector, private sector, civil society, and academia, and the Forum included discussions and deliberations on the development of a competitive ICT sector in the Arab region and the strengthening the financing and investment mechanisms and encouraging business initiatives in the sector.

MENAinc participation was to present teh networks activities for teh forum participants and to attract new members to network. Also, MENAinc have participated int eh Expert Group Meeting which was held prior to the forum.

Oman - Information Technology Authority launches initiative for ICT business incubation

Muscat - Information Technology Authority (ITA) formally launched its latest initiative - 'Sas Programme' - in collaboration with United Kingdom Business Incubation (UKBI) and Coventry University at its premises in Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM) on Tuesday.

The Sas Programme is an information and communication technology (ICT) business development initiative designed to help promote small and medium enterprises (SMEs) build a robust ICT sector in Oman. The launch ceremony was held under the patronage of H E Dr Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry and chairman of ITA.
