ADU ENTERPRISE AND ESCWA TO LAUNCH “DIGITAL ARABIC CONTENT COMPETITION

Abu Dhabi University’s Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship “ADU Enterprise” in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) has launched the “Digital Arabic Content Competition”.

Chief of ICT Applications Section, and Director of ESCWA’s Initiative for Promoting the Digital Arabic Content Industry through Technology Incubators, Dr.Nibal Idlebi clarified that this project aims to support young entrepreneurs in the Arab region, to build start-up companies and SMEs that can thrive in the field of developing and innovating Arabic digital content.

Rima Shaban, Manager of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre “ADU Enterprise, member of MENAinc” asserted that the “Digital Arabic Content” workshop will review the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead of the digital Arabic content industry in the Arab region, as well as feature presentations on the business models of modern private companies, business start-ups in the Arabic digital content industry. She added: “The workshop mainly targets entrepreneurs, students, and university graduates with creative ideas in the field of Arabic digital content, who aspire to participate in the competition, as well as experts from academia, the private sector, in the fields of IT, mobile phone applications, internet content, or even Arabic content developers. During the workshop, we will also announce the official launch of the “Digital Arabic Content Competition” through which the winners will receive incubation services from the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center at Abu Dhabi University “ADU Enterprise” in collaboration with ESCWA to support the best project idea that enhances digital Arabic content.”

New incubator on spot (Qatar Business Incubator Center)

The Qatar Business Incubation Center has been founded by a leading government Qatari institutions in Entrepreneurship (Qatar Development Bank "QDB", Social Development Center "SDC, Part of Qatar Foundation") with the goal of developing the next 100 Million QAR companies in Qatar.


The main objectives are to develop Qatari companies through:

Promoting entrepreneurship and best-in-class business ethics by closely providing and developing the next-generation of successful entrepreneurs, business leaders and creating and growing companies (start-ups and scale-ups) in Qatar.

QBIC located currently in the Qatar Development Bank a lncus the incubator is under construction in the industrial area as the proposed incbator will consist of  5 buildings as shown in the imaginary model below:

New Technology Incubator in Libya

The National Agency for scientific Research have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF) to launch the science parks program which include establishing the first technology incubator in Libya. the incubator will focus on Petrochemecal and Agricultural and Health related businesses. infoDev Business Incubation Management Training (Bahrain 2014)

The infoDev Business Incubation Management Training was conducted in the Bahrain Business Incubator Center, Kingdom of Bahrain during the period 26th to 29th January 2014. This training was organized by Bahrain Development Bank Group (the mother company of Bahrain Business Incubator Center) in association with MENAinc, the Middle East and North Africa Incubators Network, with the support of infoDev.

Four training modules were offered as follows: Module 1&2, Business Incubation Definitions and Principles & Business Incubator Models, Including Success Factors, Module 3- Planning an Incubator, Module 6 – Managing the Incubator and Module 7 – Monitoring, Evaluating and Benchmarking Business Incubators. Two infodev trainers; Omer Oz from Turkey and Mohammad Allam from Bahrain have delivered these modules.

The total number of participants was 35 coming from: Bahrain, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Sultanate of Oman, and Lybia.

As a special feature, the participants where invited for a site visit to Riyadat, the recently established women incubator in Bahrain. Participants were briefed about the concept and design of this incubator, where it combines the business incubator with a shopping mall set up. Also, the visit was very helpful in realizing some of the learned concepts during the training such as planning the incubator, selection of clients, anchor tenants concept, etc.

The training was a great venue to exchange experiences and to network; having participants from 6 countries was useful in facilitating the infoDev training methodology of participants centered training. This have enriched the discussion and made it more useful for all the attendees.
